No cause/need to apologize. So I emptied my cookies (long overdue anyway) and it seemed to make no change other than needing to log-in. Can't modify user settings without a weird "email's don't match" error. What match? I'm US Mountain Time (near Yellowstone). I'd be grateful if you can fix this.

Ok I've set your account to mountain time. Try refreshing the page and see it it behaves.

Couldn't log-in today Then requested change password, did so. and logged-in with new password. Sure enough, timezone seems to be correct. Thanks!

BTW, I'm coming to the point in life where I just refuse to understand WTF! - even if 'whatever' seems to be discernible for some.

I've just created 'The Miscellaneous Department' - a place to store all of the stuff for which we don't already have a place. I've set up two sub-forums....'Useful Links'....and 'The Snake Pit'. Useful links should be self-explanatory. The Snake Pit is a sub-forum for the discussion of things that are outside of the scope of HMFL. Moderation will be relatively relaxed until I'm no longer feeling relaxed. Guns, politics, religion, racism, mysogynism....and most other *isms are not allowed. Sorry if that impacts your idea of a good time but that's the way it is. Enjoy!

So ... no observations on the role of Dogmatism, Mysticism and/or Shamanism upon the historical trajectory of AP, I presume!

Nope....none of the above. HMFL is a 'no bullshit' zone for nice people...and that's why we disallow chat about all of the *isms. If we don't draw the line, we'll start off talking about politics and religion and, before you know it, we'll have people talking about crystals, channelling, the Easter rabbit and gravel aquaponics.

My trip to VIetnam has provided the time (thank the rain for that) to expand some of the other Have More For Less sub-forums.

As I've stated previously, Have More For Less is the repository for all of my interests....the things that make me happy...in the hope that they might be useful to others.

Over time, I will incorporate all of my website activity into just two sites....this one and a blog that is under development.

Have More For Less is my place...and you're welcome to visit anytime you like...and to join my friends and I in a discussion of the things that interest us.

With the exception of a couple of invitations that I extended early in the piece, all membership growth has happened through people following me home from elsewhere. It's slow...and I'm fine with that. Having spent a decade in discussion forum trenches, I'm committed to ensuring quality over quantity...both in terms of content and membership.

            HI,

Those of you who are particularly observant will have noticed that the Comment link that previously appeared at the bottom of each post window (IP - Edit - Comment - Quote - Flag - Abuse - Like) is no longer there. It was confusing people...including me...so I've disabled it in the interests of a more satisfying forum experience.

I think that most people who operate discussion forums, like this one, understand that they have taken something of a backseat to other social media options - like Facebook Groups.

I started HMFL knowing that but I did it anyway...for a number of reasons:
              • Discussion forums are better suited to detailed conversations.
              • The editing options on Facebook stink...particularly when it comes to responding to the specifics of a post.
              • It's easier to Search for information on a discussion forum.
...and, if I stop to think about it, there are probably lots of other reasons that are less important.

The frequently touted advantage of Facebook groups is that everyone is on Facebook. I'm not convinced that's an advantage.

Suffice to say, at this stage, I'm hoping to attract members who share my interest in simple living and self-reliance.

It's been about 16 months since I started the forum...and it's taken a lot of work to put up enough content to make it interesting to passers-by. Many drop by...most move on. Those that stay contribute and learn...and are nice people. And I'm happy with that.

Wholeheartedly agree. It is so easy to lose track of a discussion thread on FB, very frustrating.

                  Yep.
                • It's easier to Search for information on a discussion forum.
Huh, I didn't realize FB had a usable search feature.

Or that it is true that "everyone is on FB", I read an article today that many are deleting their social media due to privacy concerns. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/18/people-are-deleting-social-media-accounts-due-to-privacy-worries.html

Gary, I appreciate all you do to keep the discussion lively. Wish I had a bit more free time to help keep the balls up in the air !

Mike...you're one of the nice people who contribute and learn...and it's my pleasure to have you hear for as much as time permits.

In anticipation of a renewed focus on HMFL, I've enlisted the support of some old friends to act in the role of moderator. We may not see much of them because, like all of the best people, they are busy...but I'm honoured to have them work with us...and I'll gladly accept any input that they choose to make. Anyway, more of the new moderators later.
