Just joined your site. Your passion of changing our ways of wast and eating packaged food is my absolute target I hope. After living in one location on a 1/4 acre block in a suburb of Melbourne Australia for 32 years. . Life kicked in with health issues and closing down my business of 25 years. I decided on a tree change to the rural countryside of Victoria Australia and moved onto 150 acre property. Twelve months in, old orchards revitalised. Sheep and Cows in the paddock.Old Dairy has been converted into work shop for the Aquaponics build that is now in progress. No fish as yet after 6 weeks as I cannot get the nitrates & nitrite to move above 0. Looking forward to the future changes and creations.

Welcome Leef, There is an enormous amount of info here as well as links herein. Good luck on the build! Your rural spread sounds fabulous. Sheep and cows grazing and pooping is the absolute greatest thing you can do for the soil!Look forward to learning more of you experience.

Welcome aboard, Lee....and welcome to the great HMFL adventure.

I envy you with your 150 acres. What a wonderful starting point.

What are you using as the ammonia source for your aquaculture system cycling? Consider using a little Lee Pee...that'll fire things up.

With the abundance of cow poo it has been used for the kick start.
When the water clears and chem levals balance then the fish will be added.
The old dairy has come in good use as it has a natural fall to the land so auto syphon works a treat.
On top of that two (2) 2000 ltr Stainless Steel milk vats were available so one has been integrated into the system.

            Hi Lee,

Given your acreage - and the fact that you already have cattle - have your contemplated waste transformation farming? Cow poop is too valuable to leave it lying around in a paddock.
